Installation Instructions for your OUALICLEANŽ MAXX
The installation of one of the world's most technologically advanced whole house water- conditioning system is not very difficult. You will need some basic plumbing tools and the ability to solder copper pipe. Remember, your QualicleanŽ MAXX will work on both well and city water.
First determine the location of the unit. It should be near the main water source for the house. The QualicleanŽ can be located either indoors or outside. The special PVC filter housing has been developed to withstand ten years of continuous UV light and extreme weather exposure (in areas of FREEZING weather, the plumbing and unit needs to be insulated to keep from freezing). Make sure there is at least three inches of clear space below the Pre-filter housing to allow for removal of the canister. The unit should be level to prevent possible tipping when full of water.
Once you have determined your MAXX unit location, make sure there is enough space behind the unit to allow for the copper plumbing to be in position. It is also important to take into account, space for the Pre-Filter housing and the Descaler unit position at this time.
Next, mark the location of the mounting holes on the surface that will hold the pre-filter housing. Drill your mounting holes. Use appropriate mounting screws to secure the unit. At this point, DO NOT MOUNT THE UNIT TO THE WALL SURFACE!
It is recommended that all copper pipes, 90° elbow connectors, Copper T's, ball valves, as well as the location of the by-pass, drain and electrical outlet be determined and cut to size prior to installation. It is impossible for QualityH2o.com to provide exact measurements for these as each installation is different. It is highly recommended that a by-pass line be installed during this initial installation.
Now, turn off the water to the house at either the curb cock or at the house valve. If your house has a pressure regulator, the house valve will be located before the pressure regulator. If your building does not have a pressure regulator, it is recommended that one be installed at this time as unregulated pressure over 90 PSI can damage the MAXX unit and voids the warranty. Once the water has been turned off, go into the house and open the cold water tap at any sink or hose spigot to relieve any pressure in the pipes.
You are now ready to determine where to cut into your house water supply. Your cut should allow enough room for you to solder the appropriate copper fittings that will lead to and from the QualicleanŽ MAXX. These fittings usually include several 90 degree angles, the T's for the by-pass, Copper Unions should you choose to use them, three ball valves for the by-pass, two male iron pipe fittings for connecting to the back of the MAXX and two Female iron pipe fittings for the Descaler as well as various lengths of copper pipe. Braided one inch ID flexible hoses can be used rather than solid pipe at this point, The standard pipe size for the QualicleanŽ MAXX unit is one inch. Smaller or Larger pipe sizes can be reduced or enlarged to function without changing the flow or pressure in the building. For plumbing larger than 1-3/4 inches, contact QualityH2o.com to determine if we need to make a modified manifold for you. Each leg leading either to or from the QualicleanŽ MAXX must end with a one inch male iron pipe fitting (MIP). This allows for the threading of the one inch male iron pipe (MIP) fitting already on your unit. The connections to the Descaler require the use of the Female Iron Pipe (FIP) fittings at each side. CAUTION: AFTER SOLDERING THE COPPER, ALLOW IT TO COOL BEFORE THREADING INTO THE QualicleanŽ MAXX or the Descaler unit. This will prevent any distortion of the PVC parts.
Now that the copper has cooled, you will mount your unit to the wall and thread the pipes together. It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that both teflon tape and pipe threading compound be used for the joint between the copper pipe and the VC pipe. It is easier to remove the short section of PVC pipe
from the QualicleanŽ at the PVC unions and thread that short section into the copper PIP thread than to leave it all assembled.
Now you can loosely mount your Pre-filter unit to the wall and thread the pipes together. Make sure all the pipes are aligned and straight before you tighten the PVC unions back together. Make sure the O-Ring is seated properly inside the union before reassembly. Once the pipes are aligned, tightened and secure, you can do the final tightening of the QualicleanŽ MAXX unit.
It is now time to thread the back flush drain hose barb fitting into the back the unit head. Prior to threading, wrap the threads with teflon tape. Thread into unit till tight. Next, push on the included hose and run onto dirt or into drain. Secure the drain hose with a hose clamp.
Now, remove the timer cover on top of the unit. This is accomplished by removing the two screws on the sides of the plastic cover. Check to make s that the timer is in the "In Service" position. The timer is set, to backwash unit every twelve days. There is no need to change any setting at this time. Replace the housing cover.
You are now ready to begin the flow of filtered and conditioned water into your home.
First, you will need to make sure that all the ball valves on the QualicleanŽ MAXX are in the open position or parallel to the pipe positions. Next, you will make sure the housings and fittings to the Pre-filter unit are tightly seated by hand tightening.
Now you can turn the house water back on and check for leaks at your new solder joints and at any threaded locations. Once no leaks are detected, you will close the bypass (center valve) ball valve to the QualicleanŽ MAXX by turning it to the 90 degree position.
You are now officially filtering, conditioning and descaling all the water passing through the QualicleanŽ MAXX. Your unit will work on your water for MANY YEARS, but you replace the Pre-Filter in the next 105,000 to 130,000 gallons of water use. That means you have from 12 to 16 months of perfect water to use to wash, bathe or drink at every tap in your home.
Pressure to the building should remain the same as it was prior to installation. The QualicleanŽ MAXX will not affect the pressure or flow at levels below 75 PSI. Above 75 PSI to 100 PSI there will be a 1 to 1-1/2 pound drop if the flow exceeds 1 GPM through a 1-1/2 inch supply line. NOTE: this is extreme flow and pressure that is not supplied by municipal water districts. Pressure and Volume this high will rupture the seals on your toilets. It is very unlikely that your pressure is this high. Should your pressure exceed 90 PSI, a Pressure Regulator must be placed on line before the MAXX unit of Warranty is void.
