The dangers of Chlorine

Chlorine, which is used almost universally in the treatment of public water supplies, is not only absorbed through the skin but is also inhaled when in a hot shower. There is growing evidence that chlorine may actually pose serious health risks when it is absorbed or ingested over a long period of time. Studies have linked the element and its byproducts to cancer of the bladder, liver, stomach, rectum and colon, as well as heart disease, arteriosclerosis, anemia, high blood pressure and allergic reactions. There is also evidence that chlorine can destroy protein in our body and cause adverse effects on skin and hair. The presence of chlorine in water may also contribute to the formation of chloramines, which can cause taste and odor problems.

Since it is required chlorine be present in all public drinking water supplies, it is up to each individual to remove it at the point-of-use in the home.  While many people filter the water they drink and use for cooking, they often overlook the importance of protecting themselves in the shower.

The Benefits of Minerals in your water

For those who want their water to be as natural as possible, free from pollutants and mic robes, free from Chlorine and other chemicals injected from City water treatment, or free from contaminants found in well water; all water that undergo through the exclusive process provided by Quality H2O, Inc. will ensure your water is not only safe and clean, but as close to its natural state as possible.

Quality H2O, Inc. produces a water product that contains essential minerals found in water in its raw form. Water is supposed to have minerals such as Magnesium and Calcium, silica, bicarbonate, natural amounts of fluorides; our body is designed to benefit from these minerals.

A 2003 committee report to the World Health Organization on nutrition and drinking water concluded that drinking water containing magnesium and calcium is beneficial to certain cardiovascular disease and other health conditions, such as osteoporosis.

Be aware that using technologies like Reverse Osmosis strips water from all its natural and beneficial minerals. Other water treatments like Carbon based systems are not comprehensive enough to address the full realms of contaminants found in tap water. Water softeners add salt to the water to remove the Magnesium and Calcium from the water, leaving the water slick, salty, and non-potable (cannot drink from it).

The need for Good water

  • It is estimated that at least 75% of Americans are dehydrated to such a degree that it affects their health in a negative way. In many this need from more water is misunderstood as hunger pains.
  • The catch is that virtually everyone in the U.S. has one or more toxic chemicals lodged in fatty tissue from drinking treated tap water.

In the U.S., 53 million Americans drink water from municipal water supplies containing potentially dangerous levels of chloro- and fluoro-chemicals, lead, fecal bacteria, as well as pesticides and other impurities associated with cancer and metabolic dysfunction.
  • Your body consists mainly of water (on average about 70%). Your liver, for example, is about 90% water, brain 85%, blood 83% and even the bones 35%.
  • In a University of Washington study, drinking one glass of water when feeling hungry stopped the hunger pangs in 98% of the dieters surveyed.
  • The main cause of daytime fatigue is simply a lack of water.
  • Research shows that about 8-10 glasses of water a day may significantly ease back pain and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.
  • If the average person drank at least 5 glasses of water a day (plain water not mixed) the risk of getting breast cancer is decreased by 79%, colon cancer by 45% and bladder cancer by 50%.
  • A person's minimal water requirements is half their body weight in ounces. For instance, a 200 pound person should drink at least 100 ounces of water.
  • Only a 2% drop in the amount of water in your water can bring on mental confusion such as short-term memory loss, being unable to focus and forgetting how to do simple math calculations.

Why the water you drink or absorb in your house needs to be filtered:

  • City Water is delivered with Chlorine, Amines, or a combination of both called chloramines.
  • The purity of the water that reaches your house is only as pure of the miles of piping and plumbing between the city water treatment facility and your house.
  • For those who do not dink off your tap: Many contaminants are absorbed in the shower , while brushing teeth, taking a bath, etc.
  • Cryptosporidium and Giardia. Primary source is animal feces, which can contain harmful cysts. Land runoff carries cysts into lakes, streams and rivers where water treatment plants collect the water. The cyst microorganism is small (3-4 microns in size) with a hard shell that protects it from chlorine, the most commonly used disinfectant in water treatment. Effect: The EPA estimates that 155 million people are potentially at risk from waterborne cryptosporidium. It can cause flu-like symptoms that can last one to three weeks in healthy adults. It can be life threatening for persons with suppressed immune systems, such as HIV/AIDS and cancer patients.
  • Lead can leach into water from lead plumbing, lead solder and brass alloy faucets. Effect: Long-term exposure can cause lower IQ, memory reduction and shorter attention spans in children.
  • Lindane is a pesticide used on cattle, lumber and gardens. Atrazine is a herbicide used on corn and non-crop land. Effect: Lindane can cause liver, immune, circulatory and nerve problems.  Atrazine can cause mammary gland tumors.
  • Asbestos; direct and indirect water contamination can result from natural deposits. Effect: Can cause cancer.
  • Chlorine disinfectants used by drinking water treatment plants. Effect: Chlorine remains in the water in small amounts and can affect the flavor of the water. One possible side effect of chlorinating drinking water is that it creates trihalomethanes (THM¹s), which can be carcinogenic (cancer causing).
  • Mercury can leech from direct and indirect water contamination can result from crop runoff, natural deposits, batteries and electrical switches. Effect: Can cause kidney and nervous system disorders.

All the above conditions can be greatly reduced or eliminated for the lifespan of any of Quality H2O’s whole house water filtration systems.
